Status What is this? PatentMonkey.com tracks the Status of patents so you have more knowledge of the patents you are reviewing. Further, we provide a “Verify” link to each patent so that you may verify the Status of each patent directly from the USPTO. Our patent status symbols will be one of the following: |
| Active: The patent is in good standing with all Maintenance Fees paid. | | |
| Abandoned 24: The patent was abandoned within the last 24 months which is within the timeframe for the patent owner to file a Petition to Revive for "Unintentional" delay of the late maintenance fee payment. Petitions based on "Unintentional" delay are often granted (see Patent Rules § 1.378). | | |
| Abandoned: The patent has been abandoned for more than 24 months and could only be Revived due to an “Unavoidable” delay. Petitions based on "Unavoidable" delay are rarely granted (see Patent Rules § 1.378). | | |
| Expired: The patent’s term has ended. Patent’s are granted a term of 20 years from the earliest claimed filing date (verify priority claims). The term for patents filed prior to June 8, 1995 is the longer of: (1) 17 years from the issue date; or (2) 20 years from the earliest claimed non-provisional filing date. | | |
| To Be Determined: Any patent with a TBD (To Be Determined) status has been identified as likely having a claimed priority date different than the filing date which requires one to calculate the specific Expiration Date. The expiration date is the longer of 20 years from the claimed non-provisional priority date or 17 years from the date of issue. | | |

| * We use reasonable efforts to determine the Status of each patent but we make no guarantees as to the accuracy and completeness of our Status data. Patents filed on or after May 29, 2000 (expiring in the year 2020 or later) may have their term adjusted due to administrative delays by the Office during the examination. We are incorporating patent term adjustments into our system and you are always able to verify information on PAIR by clicking the verify link on each Patent Page. |
