PatentMonkey.com Integrates Search by Active, Abandoned and Expired Patents

PatentMonkey.com announces that today it has added search by patent status as a new search field allowing patent professionals and open source seekers a chance to find technologies faster.  Patent status fields include Active (in force and paid up), Abandoned (fees have not been paid) and Expired (the term of the patent has ended).

Reston, VA (TransWorldNews) March 21, 2007 – Two weeks ago, PatentMonkey.com integrated Patent Status onto its patent detail page.  Today, users can narrow their search by any combination of Active, Abandoned and Expired in conjunction with their search.  After selecting a Patent Status, users also get the benefit of our time saving patent page dashboard with a number of data points about a patent displayed efficiently on one screen.

PatentMonkey.com’s team analyzed the payment status and expiration dates on millions of patents and found that close to half a million patents in the past twenty years have been abandoned while millions of patents have already expired.  Utilizing our proprietary algorithms, we process numerous factors on each patent to determine and provide up to date patent status information. Users of PatentMonkey.com will find the Status information displayed at the top of each patent’s detail page.  By combining Status with a patent search, searchers can quickly determine the level of review required for relevant patents stemming from invalidity, state of the art, patentability, freedom to operate or clearance searches without having to search for status information separately.

Patent expiration is determined by following the laws set forth before June 8, 1995 as well as after that date to ensure an accurate date of expiration is calculated.  Additionally, patent maintenance fees require weekly and timely updates as an additional data point.

Paul Ratcliffe, Co-Founder, noted, "Combining our efficient Patent Detail Page, Bulk Upload tool, search by Patent Status ability and our recently announced 'More Patents Like This' function, PatentMonkey continues to launch a stream of innovations in the patent search arena, all free to use with premium features for advanced users.  Many of our innovations are a result of our loyal user’s input and we plan on adding even more new features in the near future."
